I was honoured this last weekend to not only attend my brother’s wedding, but to also write two custom poems to be performed during the wedding ceremony. One of these was read by my youngest daughter, and the other was read by my brand new sister-in-law’s neice.
I have to say, it was a real privilege to be able to hear them being read aloud at such a personal event.
My sister-in-law’s neice sobbed her way through her personalised poem which opened the whole ceremony. It was received with many ‘awwws’ and set quite a few of us off crying and there wasn’t a tissue to be had for our made-up faces. Yikes!
The poem I had written for my daughter was read just before the happy couple exchanged their rings. It was a very proud mum moment to see my little girl get up and confidently recite her personalised poem that she had learned off by heart. We had spent a couple of hours practicing before the big day. As the youngest reader, she got laughs in all the right places and a big aww and round of applause at the end.
It was so lovely to be asked to write for my brother’s wedding, but to see the reactions of the wedding guests was the icing on the cake! I’ve been writing custom wedding poems for almost 10 years now and don’t often get to see the end result of my services, so this weekend, I made a memory that will certainly make me and the bride & groom smile for many years to come.
If you would like to have a custom poem written for the wedding of a family member, or for your speech as a groom, father of the bride or best man, please do get in touch and place your order either on this webpage or via iwantapoem.co.uk.
